長谷部国重 Hasebe Kunishige

What is Hasebe Kunishige in Japanese Katana terminology

Hasebe Kunishige is the founder of the Hasebe school based in Yamashiro Province (currently Kyoto Prefecture), and one of the "Ten Disciples of Masamune". His representative work is "Heshikiri Hasebe". Although he made swords in Yamashiro Province as a disciple of Masamune, his style reflects that of the Soshu tradition. The biggest characteristic of Hasebe Kunishige is his forging style, where the grain of the steel appears as large straight grain → large wood grain → large straight grain from the blade to the ridge.
