櫓金 Yaguragane / Tower Metal

What is Yaguragane in Japanese Katana terminology?

This is a metal fitting that connects the Yamagata metal fittings and the Obitori (belt holder). It is designed to allow the Obitori to move freely. From the top, it is arranged in the order of Obitori (with a decorative metal fitting) → Yaguragane → Yamagata metal fittings → scabbard, and is worn on the waist. This structure allows the sword to be easily drawn and sheathed, and also helps to distribute the weight of the sword evenly when it is worn.
