Katana Name: Fukyo (風狂)
The Fukyo katana, meaning "madness" or "craziness" in Japanese, draws inspiration from the legendary Japanese monk Ikkyu 一休. Known for his unorthodox behaviors, drinking, eating meat, marrying, and carrying a skull etc (many violation of monk’s code of conduct). Ikkyu defied societal norms to reveal deeper truths about spiritual freedom and Zen. His "mad monk" reputation and vibrant life remind us that true Zen was about spiritual freedom, not conformity.
Many of us live an ordinary daily life, at some point we might also need a bit of craziness to understand what is truly live a life, this is what we hope this katana will bring you.
Dynamics Graphic of this katana (made by Andy/Dlatrex):

Blade
The blade is double bohi spring steel, this katana is very sharp, ideal for practice. Its blade produces a satisfying sound when swinging, and the spring steel is resilient, designed to bend and return to shape, making it both safe and durable. Even beginners will find it a reliable choice for effective cutting.
The sharpness of this katana is equal to the "Razor Sharp" level in our Custom Katana.
The Sharpness of this katana is a key feature, hence we don't plan to sell a dull edge version of it.
Saya
Finished in Nashijinuri (梨子地塗, means pear skin texture) style with gold and black powders over an orange base, the saya reflects the colors of traditional Japanese monk robes—orange and black.
Habaki
Decorated with a lotus design, the habaki honors the lotus as an essential Buddhist symbol of purity and enlightenment.
Tsuba
This high-quality alloy tsuba features a Sukashi-style (透鍔) design adorned with the Manji symbols of Buddha, emphasizing protection and spiritual strength.
Menuki
The menuki design features bamboo, a tribute to the monks who traditionally use bamboo canes as support.
Tsuka
Hishigami wrapping with panel real rayskin Samegawa, the green silk ito is tightly bound for a secure, comfortable grip.

This sword is lightweight, extremely sharp sturdy and well built. The Ito is so tight it feels lt was carved out of wood but still comfortable. For $200 you can’t go wrong, ROM makes awesome swords at affordable prices!!!

Really communicative and helpful staff. Fantastic Katana. Can't ask for more
Nathan L. 5/5 Verified
Sharp and smooth. Cutting is really easy and all the fittings are tight.
Matthew E. 5/5 Verified
Maybe I received an "off" model but it is nowhere near as sharp as everyone is saying. Mine kept getting stuck in the Tatami, a problem I've never had with my nihonto. Fittings are great, wrapping is solid, saya fits well. It's the blade itself that unfortunately misses the mark. I'm afraid I'll probably never reach for it again.
Christina C. 3/5
The sword is excellent! It is light (927 grams), very well balanced, easilly cuts paper. The handle wrap is very tight, better than in more expensive swords. Thank you ROM for keeping good quality, don't change it!
Artur J. 5/5 Verified
Greatly appreciate the customer service. The sword is exactly as described. It glides into the saya, and sits snug when sheathed.

Phenomenal katana. The best value around, and insanely sharp!
Daniel G. 5/5 Verified
This is hands down the sharpest katana, from factory, I’ve ever experienced. The ito is really tight. Surprisingly tight for the cost of this katana. The texture on the saya provides some grip but doesn’t interfere with my obi. No hot spots on the fuchi. The tsuka feels good in hand but slightly on the thinner side. ROM has done a fantastic job creating this awesome budget katana. 5 stars!

Very sharp out of the box and a fun cutter!

I ordered my Fukyo with black samegawa instead of the original white, as someone in the previous (very helpful) reviews suggested. Customer service was fast, polite and helpful, and we could sort out this customization without extra fees. Thank you! I really like the way this looks. As per the product description, this thing is wicked sharp. I'll have to practise a while more before I can make my own resharpening match this performance. The sword itself has no rattles, the handle is bound with care, everything seems tight and well-made. There was some very minor fraying on the (silk?) cord around the scabbard, but for the price point, I couldn't be happier.
Ville V. 5/5 Verified
Great cutter, performs well. If there is one thing to improve slightly it would be so the sword needs to be popped from the scabbard. My sword was a bit loose in the final scabbard fit. But for an entry level sword this is an excellent choice.

I've had this sword for a few months now and it's been preforming beautifully. There is very little damage or even a noticeable loss of sharpness despite using it to clear weeds and undergrowth. The spring temper is excellent with no visible warping of the blade of any kind and the wrap has so far held up perfectly. Excellent sword, would recommend.
J. 5/5 Verified
Everything is on tight, and fit and finish is excellent. Sharp as a straight razor. Way better than it has a right to be! Now, for a wakizachi.
Gary M. 5/5 Verified
This katana is absolutely outstanding. The blade is razor-sharp, delivering exceptional cutting performance. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent, making it a great value for what you get. I went with black samegawa, which in my opinion fits perfectly. A katana that clearly stands out in my collection.
Jacek R. 5/5
Good enough nible blade,no loose fittings, tight ito,no rattling in saya! Will order again!
Belu B. 5/5 Verified
I had high expectations and this katana met them all. Craftsmanship, detail, sharpness, straight, balance feels good when used to cut various fruits, and makes a nice "swoosh" sound. Fast free shipping was a bonus!! Will definitely be buying another sword as soon as I can decide on which one.
Daniel P. 5/5 Verified
This Katana is absolutely beautiful. The craftsmanship is superb...well balanced, solid build. From the polish of the blade, the razor sharpness, the double bohi, to the tsuka and tsuba, it is fantastic. I will definitely be buying again from ROM, without a doubt. Customer service was great and shipping was perfect and easily trackable.

ROM knocked it out of the park with this Katana! You simply cant get a better value for the price ! Super sharp, light / nimble sword , looks great, the Ito and fittings are all nice with tight fits. I also really like the look of the Saya as well but If I had to name one thing that needs improvement is the fit of the blade to the saya.. very very loose. Obviously, considering the price, you should not expect perfection . All in all.. Excellent sword - Highly recommend

The Fukyo katana is "love for the first sight"! Performance-price ratio is excellent, decent workmanship, blade sharpness is really razor blade. Overall I am satisfied. p.s. unfortunatelly i couldn´t attached .mov file with papper cut test. (from my iPhone file size is 1,4 MB....)

I got this in the mail shipped pretty quickly by their carrier. The sword is very sharp and very light! I like the silk ito which is tight. The saya is very nice and decorative!
Michael M. 5/5 Verified
Better than I expected for the price. The blade is good quality, very straight and with a nice balance. It could've bit just a little bit sharper, but is still sharper than most other swords I had out of the box. Fittings are all good quality, the tsuka is a nice shape and the ITO is tight enough. The one downside is the sageo - it's really thin and flimsy (I suspect it's just the same cord as the one used for tsuka ito) - but that is really easy to replace, so for this price I can't complain.
Marcin S. 5/5 Verified
This sword cuts like a dream. It slices pool noodles like a hot knife through butter and it looks nice too. Th green and gold is very striking. The tsuka ito is rock solid and the silk feels wonderful. It has quickly become one of my favorites.

Very good customer service in answering questions and status of order. Great quality sword with quality pertaining to the blade, says, and all koshira features. Impressed with sword sharpnes and overall color scheme.

Overall great experience from my first purchase at ROM. The sharpness of the Fukyo katana I purchased is greater than any large cutting blade I have ever purchased period including companies who charge more for a sword. The Hishigami is tight and the blade is light and nimble in hand. Very happy with my purchase.
Victor S. 5/5 Verified
First off , Thank you to Sara at customer service for being kind and quickly replying. This sword is punching way above its price point in just the handle alone. The ito is so tight it cannot be forcefully moved. Whomever did the ito is fantastic. The handle has a great shape and the transitions are almost perfect. The blade is of course very sharp. The double bo-hi is interesting and makes the blade stand out in my collection. The only cons I can find are a little rattling in the saya and it is not as tight a fit as I like but this is nothing for a sword in this price range. I took mostly pictures of the handle trying to show how well it was done. The blade is plane so I feel the handle steals the show in this sword. Thank you for getting it done fast and so well!
David C. 5/5
The sword arrived paper cutting sharp. Blade is straight, with good grinds. Geometry is good, with linear and distal taper. Along with the double bo hi, makes for a light sword. The silk ito is real silk, I did a burn test,on the segeo, which is a short piece of the ito. The ito wrap is extremely tight, with well formed small knots. Transition at the fuchi and gashira are perfect with no leges. Rayskin is very high quality with large nodes. The habaki fit at the spine is also excellent. Only thing holding this katana back, are the alloy fittings. Gives what should be a very nimble sword more weight in the blade, than needed. POB is still only about 4 inches from the tsuba.A copper or iron fitting set, would make this one of the best sub $300 Swords on the market. I did two cutting sessions, it easily cuts pool noodles and light water bottles. Tatami thickness newspaper rolls offer a bit more resistance. I tried some thick newspaper rolls, with a pool noodle core. And the blade struggled a bit, which is mostly due to geometry and the double bo hi, creating drag in the target. This sword really shines on light cutting mediums. I got this as a inexpensive bottle cutter, but it is more than a beater sword. ROM paid attention to a lot of the small details, lacking in most sub $300 swords. Including a well fit saya. Not as tight as I would like, but better than most, in this price range. Rick Frazier

Very nice sword, I should mention that the suba is ever so slight tilted but it's barely noticeable. Still excellent none the less.

Edward T. 5/5
Probably the worst customer service when compared ryansword, shadow dancer, swordier, kultofathena, but slightly better than RVA Katana (in which you’ll wake weeks for a sinple response. They tend to not inspect or forget orders many times). I ordered this, UPS had sent it to the wrong address. I let ROM know immediately, then they instantly responded with “No it was delivered to the right place” as I’m sending the photos, getting the UPS manager to email them, having to go above and beyond just to prove my case. If it wasn’t for the UPS manager getting involved and talking with the people who decided to try and keep this katana at their place, which is something she didn’t have to do, ROM wasn’t bothered until after I had to send a third email with even more proof. I find it disrespectful that I get an instant no because they don’t believe their customers (which speaks volumes of who they want to sell to) and completely unprofessional. I’ve already reached out to many of the sword and YouTube sword community like Matt Jensen, Skall, etc. to no longer endorse or even review anymore ROM swords, which is what I told ROM Customer service I would do for having to go out of my way like that to prove I was never lying about anything. I still have all documents, screenshots and emails to support this. It doesn’t matter if you change your name to ROMswords, the name is just way too cringe and inappropriate to be selling swords. All I can say about this one is that it’s pretty sharp. But the double bo-hi doesn’t do anything for the tachikaze or even weight distribution. It’s very forward heavy. The fittings are, of course, sub par considering the the price but they did offer it as a budget katana. I hope people read this in the entirety. My high recommendations would definitely be ryansword as they have many options and so many more not on their website but if you add them on facebook you can message for quotes and they have SOO many other options if you simply ask if they can make. Right now, they are making a replica of this katana, and they are throwing silk, fully wrapped rayskin, their highest polish, sugaha hamon, and will sharpen it just like this one with silver and gold plated fittings. Will come with a custom Hand painted saya and a standard wood grain saya and always a sword bed unlike what ROM couldn’t do. The cost to make was only an additional $200 from this ROM katana. To the rude customer service representative that didn’t believe me once, but twice, all I can say is you should be better. You could have been much nicer as well, especially when you’re looking at the proof.
