Hinerimaki in Japanese Katana terminology
捻巻 Hinerimaki / Twisted Wrap
What is Hinerimaki in Japanese Katana terminology?
This is one of the techniques of handle wrapping (Tsukamaki). When winding the handle thread or handle leather around the handle, the thread is twisted at the overlapping part of the diamond wrap (Hishimaki) to make the thread rise high, which has the effect of preventing slippage. Among the two handle threads, the one that is made into a pinching wrap (Tsumamimaki) and twisted is called ""Katatsumakikatahinerimaki"", and the one that is twisted on both sides is called ""Morohinerimaki"".
