What is Kaerizuno in Japanese Katana terminology?
This is a fixture and decoration used to hang the scabbard (Saya) on the belt so that it does not slip off the waist. Those made of buffalo horns and the like are called ""Kaerizuno"", and those made of metal are called ""Origane"". It is also called ""Sakazuno"". Most of them are made of horns and are oriented towards the upper part of the head (Kashira), but as the Edo period progressed, the opportunity to draw swords decreased, and the decorative meaning became stronger.
