Kara-tsuba in Japanese Katana terminology
唐鍔 Tang Tsuba / To-tsuba
What is Kara-tsuba in Japanese Katana terminology?
Originally, this refers to the Tsuba (handguard) in the Tang (Chinese) style that was applied to the Tang sword (Kara-tachi). From the Heian period, it was Japanized and began to be applied to ceremonial swords for ceremonial use. It is also called ""Bundo Tsuba"" because it resembles the weight (Goto Bundo) used in the Edo period.
