In order to wear a Tachi (long sword), it is necessary to attach the ""Ashikanamono"" (metal fittings for hanging the sword from the waist) and ""Ashikawa"" (leather strap for hanging the sword) to the Koshirae (sword mounting) through which the ""Tachio"" (sword cord) is passed. The metal fitting attached to the tip of this ""Ashikawa"" is called ""Kawasaki Kanamono"". It is a tongue-shaped metal fitting that serves both as decoration and reinforcement.
