小柄櫃孔 Kodzuka-bitsu-ana / Kodzuka Hole
What is Kodzuka-bitsu-ana in Japanese Katana terminology?
This is a hole made in the Tsuba (handguard) to store the Kodzuka (small knife) in the scabbard (Saya). It is located on the Sashio-ura (back side of the scabbard) near the Koikuchi (scabbard mouth). On the other hand, on the Sashio-mote (front side of the scabbard), there was a Kougai-bitsu-ana (Kougai hole) for storing the Kougai, a small tool used for grooming such as fixing disheveled hair.
