What is Shinogi ji 鎬地 in Japanese katana Terminology

Shinogi ji 鎬地 is the part of a Japanese sword in the Shinogi-zukuri style. It's the area on the side of the blade, located between the back edge and the raised ridge. It's common to find grooves or carvings on this part of the sword.
