相州伝 Soshu-den

What is Soshu-den of Japanese Katana terminology

"Soshu-den" is one of the "Gokaden", a traditional method of sword making that developed in what is now Kanagawa Prefecture, following the middle of the Kamakura period. The establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate triggered the migration of swordsmiths from the Awataguchi school in Kyoto and the Fukuoka Ichimonji school in Bizen to Kamakura in the mid-13th century. The style of Soshu-den, characterized by a circular curve and a strong emphasis on the pattern of the hardened edge, spread nationwide as the fame of "Masamune", a representative swordsmith of Soshu-den, spread.
