腕貫緒(手抜緒)/Udenuki-o (Tenuki-o) /  Arm String (Hand Pull String)

What is Udenuki-o (Tenuki-o) in Japanese Katana terminology?

This is a cord used to prevent a Japanese sword from slipping off during actual combat. The arm string of the Tachi (long sword) was used by wrapping a thin cord, which was passed through the ""Sarute"" (a fitting to decorate the Kabuto-gane and pass the arm string), provided on the ""Kabuto-gane"" (a fitting to protect the handle head), around the wrist. The arm string of the Uchigatana (short sword) was used by making one or two holes on the ridge side of the ""Nakagobitsu"" (the part of the Tsuba where the tang of the sword fits) and passing it through.
