左安吉 Yasuyoshi Sano

What is Yasuyoshi Sano in Japanese Katana terminology?

Yasuyoshi Sano, also known as "Saemon Saburo Yasuyoshi", is one of the "Masamune Juttetsu" who is known as "Samonji" because he signs his name with the character "left". There is a theory about the origin of the name "left", which suggests that when Yasuyoshi was returning to his hometown of Chikuzen Province (now Fukuoka Prefecture), his master "Masamune" was reluctant to part with him and gave him his "left sleeve". Feeling grateful for this, Yasuyoshi started to sign his name with the character "left".
