Clay tempering method is to apply clay on the spine of the blade, and mainly tempering the edge. This results a hardened edge and softened spine, makes it ideal for cutting.

*Above we illustrate the general process of clay tempering, each sword design might use different Hamon line design / tempering technique.

The delivery time of my order was exactly 1 month. I got confused because UPS said that the package would ship from Samsung in South Korea, but ROM’s Chinese supplier uses this airport as well. When I contacted ROM their response was fast and adequate. The tanto arrived well-wrapped, oiled and undamaged in a fitting styrofoam box. No rattling, loose parts or scratches on the blade. Weight is as expected. The tanto feels good in my hand. The handle wrapping (tsukamaki) is okay, but I prefer it a bit tighter. The blade is razor sharp and has a beautiful hamon. The scabbard (saya) fits well. The quality, look and feel of this tanto are similar to counterparts that are twice its price. I am very pleasantly surprised by how good yet affordable this tanto is. Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful tanto for the money. The blade is flawless and shaped for both cutting and stabbing with a reinforced tip. The only issue is the end cap on the handle is a little off center but is barely noticeable and on tight. Highly recommended!

Things I would improve upon: Habaki fit - Not perfectly centered Blade finish - Grinding/sanding marks are not parallel Tsuba - Has hot spots from the casting process Things I was pleasantly surprised by: Wrapping: The diamonds were basically perfect and it was tied nice and tight. Edge: Came sharp enough to cut paper. Look: It is a stunning piece to look at. Overall I'm satisfied with the tanto.
