What is Gunpai-uchiwa of Samurai Armor?
"Gunpai-uchiwa" is a type of fan used by military commanders to direct troops on the battlefield from the late Muromachi period. It comes in various shapes such as circular, gourd-shaped, and elliptical. Many of them are decorated with symbols such as the sun, crescent moon, 28 constellations, Sanskrit characters, and spiritual beasts, wishing for victory in battle. The materials used include iron, leather, and wood.
