平小札 Flat Small Plate or Hira Kozane

What is Hira Kozane of Samurai Armor?

This is a flat small plate (Kozane) that does not have any raised parts, seen in the Heian and Kamakura periods. It is primarily coated with black lacquer (Kurourushi Nuri). It is also known as ""Flat Plate"" (Hirazane). From the early Nanboku-cho period onwards, the upper part of the small plate, ""Plate Head"" (Sanegashira), started to be raised.
