What is Abara Dou in Samurai Armor

肋骨胴

This is a type of cuirass (do) for the Tosei Gusoku, made from two iron plates, front and back. It is designed to resemble a naked body by emphasizing features such as the ribs, chest, and navel. A material called ‘Kosoku’ is used, and it is finished with lacquer, requiring advanced skills. It is also known for its unique design, said to have given a sense of intimidation and presence to the enemy.
