Unlike most of these reviewers, I actually use this sword almost daily. My picture is of the blade after an hour of hacking through vines, brush, and tall weeds here in Texas. I've cleaned off layers of thick plant resin with rubbing alcohol quite a few times and taken thousands of wild strikes with it. The spring steel blade has absorbed every irresponsible strike, every horizontal clear-cut through a dozen stalks, and every hard-stop on a thick trunk. Keep in mind, this is not a machete or an axe! This is NOT the intended use for this beautiful sword. I use a katana because it makes yard work more fun and the blade seems to be able to handle the work. If you want a wall-hanger, that's great. This blade is absolutely stunning. The sheath is a little mall-ninja for my tastes, but the sword itself is a work of art. However, if you need a functional sword for some reason, this is also the right choice. Who knows? You might have a zombie invasion or want your trees trimmed. I was not aware of "unokubi zukuri" before this purchase. This means that the blade geometry thins out to a fine saber in the last 60% of blade length and then thickens before the dagger-like point. Even though the back edge of this design is not sharpened, I have taken many false-edge back-cuts with it on smaller branches. The only blade geometry I was familiar with before this was the standard "shinogi zukuri" that I'd seen on every other katana. What does this blade geometry mean for the function? It means the blade is faster and lighter than the standard. In most cases, you'd be giving up durability with that missing spine thickness, but with this through-hardened spring steel, the blade has been very forgiving. If you're stupid and whack it against a tree trunk repeatedly, then yes, it'll bend or break. For me however, it has been an indestructible chopping powerhouse on my property. Life is short. Touch some grass.

I was really pleasantly surprised. The order was fairly fast. I really like the Surudoi. The default sharpness is not good for soft targets so much, but for regular tameshigiri it's great. Check the guide on sharpness and decide if you need the extra option. The ito is tight, and balance is perfect. The saya is not fitting well though, it's quite loose. But it's a very nimble blade and fun for more complex cutting patterns.

This is my second sword from ROM, I also have the Fukyo. I've had the sword for over a month with numerous iaido and cutting sessions. The sword cuts great, the inokubizukuri geometry makes for a fast, fun sword to cut with. The fittings, including the habaki, are all well done and have remained tight throughout all the cutting sessions. The blade is still paper cutting sharp. I asked to change the Saya to the all black with partial rattan wrap, which ROM's customer service happily helped us with.

A genuinely beautiful, overall wellfitted sword - all the fittings are tight, same goes for the ito - The blade came sharp, not paper-cutting sharp, but sharp enough to be used for tatami-cutting or real actual usage. Only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars, was that the blade wasn't aligned perfectly into the habaki - The backside of the blade pertrudeded a bit compared to the front, but nonetheless a beautiful sword, definitely worth the asking price!

This is my first purchase with romance of men and I can say im very happy with it! They're very friendly and have great customer service it took about 17 days to get here and it was well worth the wait. Everything is very well made, the transitions are very smooth the ito is incredibly tight and all the fittings are completely stable. I've seen some reviews about people saying it's not as sharp as they would like it but this one is incredibly sharp it's like touching a straight razor. Everything on this sword is beautifully done, The pics don't do it justice it looks so nice in person. Hats off to the swordsmiths who created this blade they did such a great job will buy from romance of men again!

very good fit and finish for a $155 katana. The blade is sharp and mine fits tightly in the saya. The ito is quite tight and the tsuka is shaped nicley. however the ito wrapping is not a high quality, it still works nicely. my sageo was kinked in a few places, looks nice tied up but if you plan on using it you may want to replace it. I had been wanting for ever to have a Katana , without breaking the bank and taking too much risk regarding quality. I saw a video on YouTube ( Shadiversity’s channel ) that recommended this one for its durability, being made of spring steel. There are so many offers out there, it’s hard to know which brand to trust. I took the chance and ordered it. It came within 20 days ( I live in France ) as announced on the site. I was afraid to be disappointed. But what a relief: it’s perfect ! The motif on the scabbard is beautiful, even the texture of it. The feel and fit is fantastic ! It feels like high quality, actually the feel of it is highly satisfying and almost addictive. Nothing rattles, the wrapping of the handle is very tight. The sword fits tightly in the scabbard. The blade geometry is beautiful ! It came very sharp out of the box. There was only one tiny « defect » : There was a very small nub of rolled metal at the very tip of the blade. I just gave it 2/3 passes of a file and it was gone. It didn’t alter the geometry of the tip at all and it’s perfectly pointy. I love it so much that I ordered a matching Wakizashi and tanto, custom made to look similar to the Katana. That’s a dream come true to me. I have loved Katanas since i was a kid and i finally own a fully functional gorgeous one! And soon a complete set. I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to receive my next orders and I hope they will be as perfect. You know the satisfying feel of manipulating something that’s high quality ? Like closing the door of a high end luxury car? Or closing a well made authentic Swiss Army knife ? That’s the feel i get from this Katana. The feel of great design, great manufacturing and great fit and finish. To sum it up i’d say it’s the most satisfying thing i own. Even better than my three motorbikes ! :-)

After watching Matthew Jenson’s review and having seen how well this katana held up in Shad’s armor test, I was intrigued. After receiving it today, I am not disappointed! This is the first sword I have purchased where I did not find issues or things that bothered me upon inspection. It was beautifully crafted, exceeding my expectations for the price point. The geometry of the blade is very refined and cool - even even the multiple reviews I watched did not do it justice. The fittings are all tight, high quality, and exactly as pictured in the store photos. I am inclined to make more purchases from Romance of Men, because this one left me quite impressed!

This is my first purchase from Romance of Man, and certainly won't be my last. The quality of the blade is amazing. The Ito wrap is tight and has no wiggle when pressed down hard, and the Koshira is extremely tight as well. I believe the Samegawa is real, but likely using a panel instead of a full wrap, however, with the price point I paid, there is no complaint at all. The Unokubi-Zukuri blade style is so light and easier for a beginner like me to wield. My only complaint is that the blade is not razor-sharp. Overall, this sword is worth your money, and is difficult to find another quality sword in this price range, especially with Unokubi-Zukuri blade style.
