I love this sword, the length, the design. Something more than just another longsword. Looks nice on display and to swing. It is not without flaws. Definitely could use a fuller to lighten the blade, it’s not unwieldy heavy, but it could use a little diet. The scabbard design is really nice, I am disappointed that the top doesn’t feel finished. You can see the wood core when sheathing the sword. I know this a “saber” but nice sword frog to match the scabbard would be better then the straps that come with it.

Staff kept me in formed even when the package got returned to them from customs. As for the sword itself, it is very well made and I'm very happy with its sharpness and durability.

Overall, in terms of fit and finish, the Windlash sword scores quite highly in my book, especially at this price point, easily beating the quality of swords sold at twice the price. With only a few caveats. The refinement of individual details on this sword is very high - the fishtail pommel is handsomely shaped with a competent peened construction. The leatherwork and wire wrap on the grip is flawlessly executed, and feels very secure in the hands. The crossguard is interestingly shaped and very tightly fitted to the blade, with very little gap. The scabbard is also of excellent quality, and the sword is well fitted to the scabbard - it will not fall out if held upside down, and requires only a bit of extra thumb pressure to unsheathe the blade. It is also quite a nice bonus that the sword comes with a belt with an integrated 3 point suspension system to securely wear it. The belt itself feels a bit too thin to call quality, but including one at all is an uncommon bonus. The blade shape is unique and interesting. Though the description calls it a 'medieval sabre', it would be more accurate to call this a fantasy interpretation of a medieval katana. The blade tapers slightly towards the point and has a false back edge on the top third, similar to a katana with Unokubi-Zukuri. The point of balance rests 5-6 inches above the crossguard, near the pointed ridge of the blade, which leads to the only flaw in my opinion: a missed opportunity in terms of weight. The blade still is quite manageable in two hands, but a bit clumsy to wield in one hand, which one would normally assume a ‘sabre' to be. I think the addition of fuller/bohi would greatly improve the overall weight and balance of this sword, so it is a shame the design doesn't include one. I would have even paid extra for that feature. I have not yet had the opportunity to perform cut tests, but I have high expectations. The blade presence may help it be a beastly cutter. I don't plan to be doing any destructive testing, but my experience with Romance of Men swords thus far is that they perform very well with their spring steel heat treatments. Overall, this is a fantastic piece that hits a high bar in terms of quality, and is well worth the price.

Customer photo review of The windlash Medieval Sabre

First off, the sword is a really beautiful piece. The lines are nice, the fit and finish are clean, all pieces are secure, and the style is somewhat exotic. The provided scabbard has a wood core with a well-stitched leather wrap and a beautiful metal chape. Overall, very nice. Now the not-so-good news.... The sword is a stylized version of a Katana / Longsword blend, which in itself is a nice idea. However, the actual product winds up being a heavy beast with the center of balance being around 5 inches up on the blade. It is also a thick stock of steel (.25 inches) with a long blade (36 inches). To help reduce the forward balance of the blade, here is a significant distal taper down to .125 inches at the start of the false edge. This helps, but not enough. The blade holds a decent edge on the false edge portion of the blade, but the forte portion is too thick to provide a good edge. The blade is definitely suited to two-handed wielding, but can be awkwardly wielded with a single hand. At first blush, I would suggest thinning out the blade stock a bit and adding a single or double fuller to reduce the weight. A heavier pommel may also prove to be beneficial. I spoke to some support personnel at Romance of Men, and they are aware of these issues and are considering some redesigns to rectify the shortcomings of this blade. Overall, I really like this blade, but it has much room for improvement. I have been impressed with the responsiveness of the staff at Romance of Men for some time now, and I believe in the craftsmanship of their products. I look forward to seeing what they can do in the future with it.

Customer photo review of The windlash Medieval Sabre

It took about two and a half months to get to me, but RoM has always been honest and up front with things to me, and since medieval swords is new territory to them, I chose to wait on it. In that process, they mentioned that they could not make this one as sharp as they would have liked, but decided to stay with my order of this one anyway since there sharpness standards are a cut above other makers I've bought from and this one being less sharp than their katanas is just par for the course for my other swords, including other katanas. This happens to be the first falchion I've owned, and it is a gorgeous design, aesthetically speaking. There is also almost no gap between the blade and cross guard. The scabbard fit is very good with only a slight bit of movement near the top due to the way the blade is shaped in that area. Also a bit of foam near the mouth of the scabbard helps with retention. Performance wise, and sharpness therein, it is still sharp enough to cut paper and go through my usual targets, though it just takes more effort to do so. The more robust edge also does make it more able to stand up to harder tougher materials such as bone or thick bamboo. Build quality is solid. Pommel is peened on, the wire wrap is tight and secure, no rattling in the cross guard or anything else. All in all, I love it, and eagerly await to see more medieval swords to come.

It is a good looking sword. Feels good, slightly blade heavy but sabers tend to do that. Scabbard is nice, fittings will need to be rebuilt. Overall for the $, it is a good purchase.

The windlash Medieval Sabre

As the order arrived I was a bit sceptical. The package was huge, bigger than expected. Yet this was my first Medieval-Fantasy inspired sword, so bear with me. The sword is decently balanced, certainly not as maneuverable as a classic arming sword, but it's not heavy at all and the plade invites for large, connected cuts. With this blade, you can dance - like a whirlwind. Of course is could be sharper, but for a factory edge it is decently sharp and the added sharpening pad can help with that. The sheath is simply beautiful. the dark blue leather, the little details, the two point hangig rig... I do understand that people are wondering why these swords are so cheap. This saber is a good cutter, here it does help that the balance is a bit off, giving it the top heavy bite that sabers oftentimes have. I am more than satisfied with this sword, so much in fact that I ordered the Dragonwhisper as well, basically the sister of this sword. And despite knowing I would get a discount for leaving a review, I deliberately bought it for full price, because a sword like this, is ismply worth it. I've seen sowrds from bigger brands, that offered less and costs more. Of course I do not know how soon the steel will wear out, or if the handle will come lose over time, but at this point, with a few months of intensive testing, I am more than satisfied.

The windlash Medieval Sabre

Overall, nice sword considering the price. But it is way too blade heavy. Either the blade geometry should get refined, or the blade should be shorter. Also the tip area was misground/misshapen, which is a little bit of a bummer, but i received a discount for that flaw. So its OK.
