What is Mizunomi no O of Samurai Armor?

This is a cord located on the backside of the sleeves (Sode). It is tied to a decorative cord ring called ""Agemaki"" located at the back of the chest armor (Do), on the back. It is a device designed to prevent the sleeve from hanging down more than necessary when bending down to drink water.
