Wakizashi, literally translating to "side inserted", is a traditional Japanese sword with a short blade between 30 and 60 cm (12 and 24 inches), or in Japanese ancient measurement unit, about 2 shaku, similar to but shorter than a katana(uchigatana). The wakizashi was a samurai's secondary weapon for close-quarter combat and usually pairs with katana as a "daisho" set.

Unlike the uchigatana, which is intended for open combat, the wakizashi is perfectly designed for indoor fighting where space is limited. Its shorter length is ideal for swift, precise cuts and thrusts when engaging an enemy at close range. Owning a wakizashi connects you directly to the samurai tradition, fulfilling your dream of living their honorable and disciplined way of life.

With our custom wakizashi feature, you have the opportunity to craft a unique, personalized weapon. Choose your preferred blade, saya (scabbard), tsuba (hand guard), and more, to create your ideal representation of this historically significant sword. Embrace the legacy of the samurai by designing and owning your custom wakizashi today.

Wakizashi Blade Material options:

Your intended usage for the custom wakizashi will determine the most suitable steel options for its blade. If you're a beginner with swords or intend to use the wakizashi primarily for decorative purposes or light cutting, we suggest choose for carbon steel or manganese steel. especially the colored blades, they offer a visually pleasing aesthetic while remaining fully functional.

For those interested in cutting practice (tameshigiri), we recommend blades made from spring steel. This type of steel is more flexible and won't easy to break, making it ideal for beginner to practice their cutting skills.

For users seeking a premium experience, our pattern steel and T10 steel options offer the perfect balance of beauty and practicality. These high-quality materials are great for both decoration and regular use, providing a luxurious touch to your custom wakizashi.

 Wakizashi Saya Options:

The saya, or sheath of the Wakizashi, often delivers the first impression of the sword when it's in storage. Its choice, therefore, becomes a personal expression of your style and taste. You may choose a simple wooden saya, exuding natural elegance, or opt for a colored variant for a pop of personality. Alternatively, you may prefer a classic design featuring traditional Japanese motifs, seamlessly blending heritage and aesthetics. The choice is entirely up to you, allowing your Wakizashi to be as unique as its owner.

Wakizashi Tsuba Options:

The Tsuba, is the Wakizashi's handguard, plays a pivotal role in both functionality and aesthetics. We provide a broad range of Tsuba options, crafted from materials like iron, alloy, or copper. All are designed to be fully functional, providing optimal hand protection during use.

Our Tsuba selection covers a variety of themes, from the beauty of nature, featuring animals and flowers, to mythology-based designs influenced by ancient Japanese myths and legends, and even samurai-themed pieces. Each Tsuba design adds a unique touch to your Wakizashi, allowing you to choose the one that aligns best with your vision of the perfect sword.

Very good quality for the price. I loved all the different options that allowed me to create my own theme. I ordered the extra sharp option and it is exactly that......watch your fingers. I was also very impressed with the delivery time. Highly recommend.

After seeing reviews of other blades, I was careful to check for fit and tightness of all elements. Everything is remarkably tight, well fitting, and handsome. It’s sharp and well balanced. Even though it was a kind of reasonably priced build, the lower tier parts look better than you’d think. Nothing looks cheap or poorly made. I’m quite impressed, and can’t wait to cut with it. Well done, and excellent value for money.

I bought this Wakizashi for my girlfriend as a gift. Ordered the Custom option. The enormity of options in the custom menus are incredible. She's a pilot so, I went for an eagle motif. The sword came out fantastic. But, most impressive of all is the company contacted me with photos of the sword before they shipped it "to make sure I was happy with everything". What company does that? Once it arrived, I can't lie, it was truly impressive. Straight, sharp, no dings or defects. Truly solid and well made. I will absolutely buy more from ROM. I may even keep this Wakizashi for myself. HaHs

Two more excellent custom wakizashi swords. Excellent construction of fittings, tsuba, Saya and spring steel blade. Very tight cotton ito wrap on both wakizahi. I’m extremely impressed with ROM’s products and services. I received updates and photos for my approval for both swords during construction. Thanks ROM. M. Zuccardo.

First off, the products you make are top quality, and incredibly durable. I was skeptical of how it might look due to it not showing the put together product, BUT i was absolutely stunned when it arrived. Its elegant, beautiful, vividly colored, straight as an arrow, and the wrapping couldnt be tighter. Ive had to rewrap other swords not from your company many times, but i will NEVER have to rewrap this. It simply doesnt move. There is no give or play on any part of it although ive been using and practicing with it. I hate these tariffs, and what the US is doing because it has a direct negative impact on everyone. I just hope your company, and its people know i will be forever appriaciative of the products you make.

This is my 7th ROM custom katana. As with the other six, I love it! The spring steel double bo-hi blade is very sharp and nicely balanced, with a nice mirror finish polish. The tsuba and fittings are crisp and clearly finished, and tightly fitted to the blade and ito of the handle. The brown PU leather ito are very tightly rapped and well presented. The engraving on the blade (Japanese for Bushido) is very nicely done. The Matt-finished saya fittings like a glove. I will be back for more! Mike Z.

I’m very happy with my Wakizashi. It came out better than I expected. It feels very solid, nothing is loose. The blade has no imperfections as far as I can tell. It has the tightest wrapping I’ve seen and felt. Shipping was quick it took about a week and it was packaged well. If you are looking for a custom sword I highly recommend ROM. They also have great customer service and they are very nice.

I love this, my 5th ROM sword. I'm very impressed by the quality of the blade, and fittings and finish for the price. I've been practicing martial arts for over 50 years, including kenjutsu. I've never found a better quality katana or wakizashi under $500.00, especially in the blade. 👍👍 Mike Z.

This is a very nice wakizashi! The T10 option feels sturdy. The hishigami wrapping option is very tight and does not move at all. The metal fittings are also tight and have no play. The tsuba is substantial and is beautiful. Shipping to me was very fast. I am very pleased with my order!

My first custom made wakizashi, with (tiger) feline/jungle theme garment! The blade is securely when sheathed with enough so The thumb break it open it! The finish is really nice no scratch and the handle wrapping is tight! Its sharp cut paper easily. Its not perfect, the tail of tiger on the Hilt Collar is a bit file of to be flush and a tiny tiny mouvement of the tsuba not noticeable when in use. In all its great!

The wakizashi is well made, sharp and polished, everything fits together nicely. The PU leather tsuka-ito is super tight with full samegawa wrapping, doesn't budge at all. Overall a great purchase and amazing customer support!

Customer photo review of Custom Wakizashi Build your own Wakizashi sword

I must say that my experience with Romance of Men is beyond what I could have expected. I had them build a custom Wakizashi for me. The creation process is very complete with many options to choose from. Shortly after I placed my order I was informed that they had a fire and may not be able to deliver my sword as quickly as I may have expected and gave me an option to cancel the order. I asked them to continue and within a week they sent me pictures of the blade, saya, and inscription for approval. All looked perfect and after my approval, it was sent out to me. It was less than a month from time to order before I received it (and this was after a fire). When it arrived I carefully inspected it and the inscription was beautiful, all fittings were tight, and the spring steel blade was well polished and sharpened. I performed some extensive cutting tests including water bottles and milk cartons and it slid through them like a hot knife through butter without any damage to the blade or loosening of the tsuba, kashira, or tsukaito. I can't say enough positive things about Romance of Men and I plan to purchase more swords from them in the future. They are top of the line in my book.
