Yes, in Canada you can legally own or buy a sword/Katana as sword is not defined as prohibited weapon or restricted weapon from https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/page-13.html#h-117002:
Prohibited weapon means
(a) a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife,
(b) any weapon, other than a firearm, that is prescribed to be a prohibited weapon;
Restricted weapon means
Any weapon, other than a firearm, that is prescribed to be a restricted weapon;
That means you can safely buy a Katana online, so far our customers have no problem receiving a Katana on Canada, in a few cases small amount of import tax is required, but other than that, buying Katana has no difference than other online shopping.
