Sharp: This is our standard sharpness, sharp enough to cut paper.
Enhanced Sharpen: This option makes the edge even sharper, making it easier and smoother to cut paper. It costs an extra $30 and adds 3 days (10 days for colored blades) to the lead time as we manually sharpen the edge.
Razor Sharp: This is our sharpest sharpen, you will have a smooth cutting experience. It costs extra $40 and adds 5 days (12 days for colored blades) to the lead time as we manually sharpen the edge.
Unsharp: The blade has a dull edge, making it safe for practice.
*Note that colored blades are generally not as sharp as non-colored blades at each respective sharpness level
The Katana Blade: All our blades are full tang and functional. We offer 47+ blade options for you to choose from. You can select with bohi or without bohi (Some blades not supported)
The Katana Scabbard (Saya): We have 119 different saya options available in various colors and styles.

Full Wrap Real Ray Skin: Uses an entire piece of real ray skin for better grip. Extra cost is $40.

The blade is the most important part for your custom katana. We have Carbon steel, Manganese Steel, Spring Steel,Pattern Steel & T10 Steel in different color and pattern for your selection.
Carbon (1060) & Manganese steel are the basic options, in compare, Carbon steel is a bit harder, Manganese steel is more flexible.
Spring steel is most flexible and will even bounce back even you bent the blade hard intentionally. That makes it the safest steel for heavy cutting and Tameshigiri because it’s less likely to break.
For cutting, especially for those new to katanas, we recommend the Unokubi zukuri spring steel blade. This blade is nimble and easy to control.
Pattern steel, also known as Damascus steel, is combination of different steel to create eye catching patterns on the blade, its also hard.
T10 Steel is hard with high carbon content. All T10 steel blade are clay tempered, with true hamon line.
Aesthetic Blade Series:
Katana’s aesthetic value outweighs it’s functional value in many cases. Refining the sword can take even longer than forging one. In this collection we offer hand polished blades with various color, texture and hamon line, you can use for your custom katana.
Bo-Hi (Blood groove)
Bo-Hi, also known as blood groove, fuller. What it does is to reduce the weight.

Saya helps protect your blade from rusting and accident scratch or damage. it's also an integral part of the elegant katana design. We offer wide range of katana saya designs to fit your custom katana design. Including solid color, mixed color, auspicious arts or luxury lacquer design.
Tsuba (hand guard) Fitting:
Tsuba protects your hand, balance the katana, and it’s probably the second most refined part of a katana. We offer symmetrical pattern, anime theme, and auspicious designs that will bring good luck to the custom katana owner.

Habaki Options
The Habaki is a small accessory that helps secure the katana blade into the saya, as well as keep the tsuba in place.
The Ito & Sageo
Ito is the wrapping on the handle, Sageo is the cord that is used to keep the scabbard on your belt. We offer cotton and PU leather material in various color options.
Our standard Ito wrapping is tight and secure, with the diamonds appearing fairly even.
For an even better gripping experience, we offer Hishigami (菱紙) wrapping. This traditional method involves placing small pieces of paper inside the Ito, further reinforcing it and enhancing its appearance. Hishigami wrapping provides a tighter Ito and more evenly spaced diamonds. Due to its time-consuming nature, this option costs an additional $30 and requires an extra 3-5 days to complete.
Samegawa
We used real ray skin samegawa (panel, not full wrapped) for all our custom katana. Real ray skin provides better gripping experience, it's more expensive at our cost, but it's worth. Our standard samegawa provides sufficient grip for the Ito.
For enhanced grip and comfort, we also offer a full-wrap ray skin samegawa. This option is available for an additional $40.
Blade Engraving
You can engrave the name of an important person, a number, a short phrase, or anything that means a lot to you. We provide free Chinese or Japanese translation service. For graphic, please send by email.

Advanced Custom Katana Service
Our advanced katana customization service allows you to go beyond standard options and make your katana exactly what you want it to be. One of our blacksmith will be dedicated to your custom order. Our advanced customization options include but not limited to the following:
Length: You could customize the blade length (Nagasa) or handle length (Tsuka) of your custom katana. Depends on your height, your Kenjutsu styles, it’s very common that you will want a longer or shorter katana that suits your need
Blade Material: Other than modern steel, we can also forge your katana with traditional steel like Kobuse steel, Honsanmai steel, shihozume steel etc.
Blade: You can have it sharp, extra sharp, or even reversed blade.
Curvature (Sori) : You could choose most common type Toori Sorri, or sakisori, or koshisori, or design your own. A katana with a little more curvature will cut smoother.
Tip (Kissaki) : You could choose different size style of kissaki, big (O-kissaki ), middle (Chu-kissaki) Or small (Ko-kissaki), or a short one (Ikubi Kissaki), curve one (Ikari Kissaki), or a straight one (Kamasu Kissaki)
Hamon line: Probably the most fascinating part of a katana. Our blade smiths can make majority types of hamon lines, from straight (Suguha) to Wavy (Midare) , as well as Gunome, notate etc.
Engraving: Other than name engraving, we can also engrave graphic designs on your katana blade. Auspicious patterns like dragon, demon are most popular choices.
Blood Groove (Bo-hi): Beside our standard bohi, you can also custom bo-hi for your blade, common types like double bohi, unokubi zukuri, shinogi zukuri are available.
Tsuba: We can fully customize the Tsuba for your katana, you can personalize the shape, the design. Material available is iron, copper or alloy.
Saya: We can fully customize the saya for you. You can print some graphic on it, or add craving designs, or lacquer art.
If you are interested in a fully customized katana, please send your requirements to hello@romanceofmen.com, we will discuss the requirements with you, and give you the final quote. Depends on how complex the requirements are, we will need deposit to start making the sword, and in some cases, even an advance fee to finalize the quote. For example if you want to customize a katana but you don’t know how to create a 3D file, we need to hire someone to do that, so we can make an accurate quote based on the 3D design.
Customization at this level is very time consuming, a higher price and longer lead time (at least 1 month) is expected.
We can’t replicate fantasy swords at the moment, most of them are not designed for actual use, our focus is on functional swords only.

Sword is very sharp and seems high quality
Gave this sword as a gift and the quality and customer service exceeded my expectations!
Very good quality overall. Wrap is tight, fittings are solid and do not move, habaki fit is very good. The blade is gently and evenly curved. The curve extends into the handle, which is excellent. The lines on the blade are very clean. The blade finish is also excellent, no scuffs or marks. The koiguchi is the saya is clean, the inside of the saya is clean, the wood is smoothly finished, not rough. The fit of the blade in the saya is excellent, nice friction between the habaki and saya, the blade does not fall out of the saya if turned upside down. Overall really good quality.
Extremely happy with this custom ROM katana! Amazing quality, sharpness, and design; thanks to the many options ROM has, and my own good taste of course :) The only thing I wish I'd known beforehand was that if you choose the gold blade, and the enhanced sharpening option, you'll get a convex secondary bevel which is not gold, but polished steel. If I was to do it again with the same design I'd just have gone with 'sharp' and had the whole blade gold and no secondary bevel. Needless to say I LOVE the option of custom katanas from ROM and I'm already waiting on two more custom designs from them as I write this! Recommended 100%

It is very sturdy and the customer service was really good and so was there packing all in all great stuff and very well made.
It is the best service for Katanas. After buying they confirm everything and send you photos before shipping. This is the second I buy.
I have been using katanas for more than 8 years, and I was always skeptical about ordering a katana online or from abroad. I prefer to hold a sword in my hands before buying it. However, my iaito developed a crack, and I wanted a sharp, functional sword. So I thought, "Why not give ROM a try?" Honestly, ROM delivered everything I hoped for. The wrapping feels tight and well done. The sword is extremely sharp. I tested it with tameshigiri, and it cut very smoothly. It had no trouble cutting through two rolled tatami mats at once. The saya is absolutely beautiful. It is darker than the reddish-brown color shown on the website, but I actually like how it looks in person. My only small disappointment is the tsuba. It looks a little too bright and almost plastic-like under certain lighting, even though I know it is metal. From the website photos, I expected a more natural antique silver finish. The blade balance felt a little unusual at first, but that's on me because I specifically chose the Unokubi-zukuri blade geometry. I was worried that it would be too light or flexible because of its shape, but I was completely wrong. The blade is not only structurally solid but also has enough mass to deliver powerful cuts. Overall, this is not a thousand-folded Japanese masterpiece, nor did I expect it to be. It is a well-made, functional cutting sword, and that is exactly what I wanted. The customer service deserves special praise. They sent me progress photos of my sword during assembly, contacted me immediately when there was a production issue regarding my order, asked for approval before engraving the blade, and always replied to my emails quickly. I will definitely recommend ROM to my students if they are looking for a quality functional katana. 10/10.
love this katana with the super-small tsuba ... for me, it makes the perfect spinning tool for practicing ... unsharpened for the novice is great ... i'm still newbie enough myself that when accidents happen, i'll instinctually grab the sword by the blade if i drop it ... unsharpened is definitely great for learning to "dance" with a blade ... also don't need to worry about cutting a leg with unsharpened ... anyway, the super-small tsuba makes my dance katana easy to ID

I like how the katana turned out, it’s very sharp & strong. The only thing was I thought the fittings was going to be white but the tsuba and menuki were more of a silverish color & didn’t match the fuchi and kashira. I also didn’t like the cotten ito but that’s a preference next time I’ll just pick a different ito material.
A great sword for the price. Delivery took place exactly as stated. There was also communication beforehand to verify the accuracy of the engraving.
In short, the custom katana I ordered is fantastic. The fit and finish is great, the sharpness and cutting ability of the blade is fantastic and it feels very good in the hands. I have done iaido for a few years, so live blades always feel a bit heavy, but I think the balance is good. The only small issue I see is that the Kogai Hitsu ana (the "3 arcs" hole on the tsuba) should present to the right (as you view it on someone wearing the katana at their hip), but on the katana I received, the tsuba is technically 'flipped' so that the Kogai Hitsu is on the 'wrong side'. This is a nit, as there isn't necessarily a hard and fast rule on this, it is more what is typical vs. what is atypical. Overall, I am very happy with it for the price and strongly recommend anyone interested in the fun and satisfaction of creating a custom katana does so using ROM!
Everything arrived as ordered. Communication during the ordering process was excellent. Before final production, I received pictures of the finished product and was able to double-check the engraving. I would gladly order again.
It looks great and is perfect for cutting. The engraving looks amazing and everything matches. I am really impressed.
Had some problems with the website itself. Some of the colors are different in pictures than what you receive and the payment of only using PayPal is a hassle. Customer service is amazing, they aim to please and try to rectify any problems. It's a great blade for the price.
Quality build although it did show up with one tiny thing in the sheath I’m still very happy. Excellent sword.
In the beginning we were not sure the quality would be good. Once it arrived we saw it was well beyond our expectations. The attention to detail was fantastic. My custom katana is so gorgeous!! I absolutely love it. I think I will order more swords because it is so beautiful and I couldn't decide between gold or purple for the blade - so now I think I need to design a purple one!! And man, it is SHARP! I ordered the extra razor sharpening, however I didn't realize that it would be even sharper than a razor! I have never in my life seen a blade of any kind this sharp. It’s such a high quality katana I am just absolutely obsessed and at the same time a bit afraid of it.!! Just makes a gorgeous wall decoration, thank you so much ROM! This is my second order, my first order was a gift for a good friend of mine - which btw was a huge hit. He loved it. So thank you for making such beautiful high quality swords, we are forever fans!!
Great customer Service, The end product looks better than I imagined it would! It is slightly heavier than I imagined and the balance is a bit off, but as a display piece it's perfect.

My custom katana (3rd from the top of the rack) is so beautifully made. I'm very happy it completes my rack. I might need a bigger rack if I'm going to get more.
This one is easily the finest katana I have now. I went ham on this one with the wootz option, full rayskin wrap, hishigami, premium saya, enhanced sharpening, and requested a suguha hamon and kamasu kissaki with a katatemaki style wrap. Attention to detail in crafting this sword is a step up from usual from the bo-hi being a more traditional style and the yokote being geometric. The weight and feel in handling is excellent, and the sharpness checked out in cutting up a pool noodle with a substandard stand. The blade fits very well in the saya with no rattle at all.

It's a very beautiful blade I'm very satisfied i thought the extra sharp option for the color blade wouldn't that much sharper since my experience with color blades are more dull than regular blades so I figured the extra sharp option would make it as sharper as a regular blade but my golden katana is sharper than my non color spring steel katana I definitely would be recommended getting a custom katana from this site over the other sites I have reviewed

The custom process is so much fun. It lets me be creative and make something somewhat unique at an affordable price. ROM does a wonderful job in crafting the sword and bringing the vision to life. The green ito wrap looks much better in person and the lotus on the habaki ties in perfectly with the seals on the saya. This is my sixth sword from ROM and I am pleased with all of them. They build well, ship quickly and their customer service is the best I have experienced. I am happy to have found them.
